Postecoglou must drop Tottenham flop at Rangers

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr was the biggest culprit in last weekend’s crushing 4-3 defeat against Chelsea, and he should be dropped from the team.

Spurs are aiming to halt an appalling run of four games without a win across all competitions (D2, L2) when they visit Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have now suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats, having previously fallen to a deflating 1-0 loss against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

However, the most recent defeat against Chelsea was particularly gut-wrenching for Spurs, and it wasn’t just about being on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller.

Tottenham got off to a flyer, capitalising on a couple of errors from Marc Cucurella to establish a commanding two-goal lead inside the opening 11 minutes.

However, in typical Spurs fashion, they capitulated and squandered a two-goal cushion, not for the first time this season.

There were several culprits in the defeat, not least Postecoglou himself, whose refusal to adapt his tactics to his squad profile has been a major factor behind Spurs’ struggles this season.

However, Sarr was even more culpable, producing a dismal display that aided Chelsea’s stunning comeback.

Sarr recorded 35 touches in the game, proving how much of a passenger he was in the high-stakes showdown.

He also won just six out of his 18 duels, lost the ball nine times and gave away a penalty that took the game completely out of Tottenham’s grasp.

His performance against Chelsea is enough for him to be dropped for Thursday’s game against Rangers.

Only a slender goal difference separates both sides ahead of the clash. Spurs will be keen to claim a win that would boost their chances of securing automatic qualification to the last-16.
