Leeds United face Oxford United this weekend in the Sky Bet Championship, in a final match before Christmas for both teams.

It will also be the final game of the calendar year for the Whites at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke’s side looking to build upon an impressive run of eight consecutive wins on home turf.

Our upcoming opponents are ending 2024 by starting a new era, having recently changed head coach, with the experienced Gary Rowett appointed after the departure of Des Buckingham.

The U’s are currently 20th in the league standings after promotion from League One last season, after winning the play-off final at Wembley, securing their status as a second tier club.

The two teams have not faced one another in a competitive fixture since 2012, which was a League Cup clash that Leeds won 3-0. The last league meeting stretches back further, coming in March 1990, the Whites ran out 4-2 winners away from home that day.

Three points would be a hugely valuable present for both teams prior to Christmas. Leeds could regain top-spot with a win, depending on results elsewhere, whilst Oxford can’t move up any places, but would further the gap to the teams below them with a victory.
