Last November, Olympique Lyonnais found itself in a tough spot after facing scrutiny from the DNCG (Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion), which significantly impacted the club’s finances. However, a January fire sale doesn’t seem likely.
While Lyon does need to offload players to address its financial struggles, the club is determined to wait for reasonable offers. The added pressure of the looming relegation threat only heightens the urgency to find solutions.
Rayan Cherki is one of the players who could leave in the upcoming transfer window, though likely for less than his market value. His contract extension in September, which runs for two more years, gives Lyon some leverage.
Moreover, the question remains whether Lyon want to sell to PSG, considering the tense relationship between OL owner John Textor and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

On the latest episode of PSG Talking, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson gave an honest take regarding whether the Parisians should pursue the French talent while noting the pros and cons of the OL standout should a deal be in the works this summer.
“The issue is with Cherki, PSG fans want the player but do they want the character, the personality that Cherki is? He’s a disruptive, difficult-to-handle character when he doesn’t play there’ll be more competition for places with PSG than there will be for Lyon.
He obviously doesn’t have that kind of status as the homegrown, academy-raised star with PSG that he would have with Lyon. And I think adapting to that would be really, really tricky for somebody like Cherki.
I think it would prove problematic, and I do think it would disrupt a lot of the good work that Luis Enrique has done in building up team chemistry over the last couple of years.
It’s a risk. Yeah, he’s a superb player, really entertaining, and fantastic to watch on his day, but he’s also a big risk in terms of personality and the way he’s behaved. Textor has even said as much publicly.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Rayan Cherki’s situation after Lyon decided to part ways with the forward this summer, The Sun reports.
