]67If a report from Israeli outlet Sport1 is believed to be true, Rangers are keeping close tabs on Dor Turgeman ahead of a potential summer swoop. But they are not alone in scouting the Maccabi Tel Aviv attacking ace. Burnley from south of the border also ran the rule on the youngster during the international break.

The 21-year-old Israel international spent his youth years at boyhood club Ashdod before joining the esteemed academy ranks of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Soon, he broke into their senior side but was loaned out to the second division outfit, Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam, for regular gametime. The spell helped him develop his game and eventually enjoy a productive 2023-24 campaign.

Turgeman netted 11 goals and laid on 2 more last season across competitions. However, he has already surpassed those numbers with 17 goals and 6 assists in 35 games so far this term [stats via Transfermarket]. His last-gasp goal against Norway made little difference in their disappointing 4-2 defeat. But the Skyblue and Whites ‘number 9’ looked impressive with his movements and poaching traits in and around the attacking third.

Rangers are undergoing a transition both on and off the pitch. They have not recruited a sporting director yet, and the club legend Barry Ferguson has only been appointed as their interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, the Ibrox faithful would hope the pending takeover from the 49ers Enterprises consortium goes through in due time. A strong run in the Europa League has reduced their financial difficulties, and the injection of cash from the new ownership should boost their summer spending.

Why Rangers Should Step Up The Chase

The Light Blues have ample options across the frontline. But they are eyeing an outright centre-forward who would replace Cyriel Dessers high up the pitch. Despite scoring some crucial goals, Dessers’ lack of consistency and traditional approach often cost them in edgy encounters. Danilo’s persistent injury problems prevented him from securing a regular role, and Hamza Igamane, a transfer target of Everton, could quit the club upon the conclusion of the current campaign. The Moroccan has exhibited flexibility in various attacking roles, but deploying him as a marksman limits his finesse and flair.

The Gers have scouted some exciting young talents in recent years, and the rising Israeli sensation might benefit from the Glasgow transfer. Turgeman might not gain enough minutes if Burnley secure a Premier League promotion, whereas plying trades to Rangers would see him experience European football. The clubs must engage in more concrete talks in the coming days to find a solution.
