Rangers’ dire defence was once again in the spotlight as 19-year-old Clinton Nsiala found himself in the first team on emergency grounds, before the whole lot caved in and Dundee opened the scoring goal.
And as a bid to salvage something at the back, Rangers have been linked with two wily campaigners experienced at the rear – Man Utd’s Johnny Evans, and Norwich’s Grant Hanley.
Aged 33, Hanley is out of favour at Carrow Road now, but boasts 80 Premier League appearances and 60 Scotland caps, while Evans is a massive 37 and isn’t getting a look in at Utd but would be regarded as a shrew recruit. He has 107 caps and almost 400 PL appearances.
These are the Davie Weir and Ugo Ehiogu School of defensive recruits – solid campaigners who can shore up the rear for sure, and have tonnes of experience at England’s highest level.
Hanley does seem more likely, there is concrete talk linking him with Rangers, while Evans is a bit further away.
But Rangers dreadfully need new bodies at the back.
And good ones at that.
