Rangers travel to Turkey to face Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie tonight.
The Scottish side are enduring a tough period, following three shock defeats – all on home soil – in their last five fixtures. Barry Ferguson has taken the reins as head coach until the end of the campaign, as Rangers look to address an alarming slump.
At the weekend, The Gers were beaten at Ibrox by Motherwell to fall 16 points behind leaders Celtic. Despite a disappointing domestic campaign, Rangers have impressed in Europe. Automatic progress to the Round of 16 was secured with a top-eight finish in the league phase, a campaign that included wins over Nice, FCSB and Union SG.
However, Rangers are up against one of the form teams in the competition. Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce side have lost just one of their last 19 games in the Turkish Süper Lig.
John Souttar could return after missing the weekend defeat to Motherwell with a calf strain. Souttar’s return will allow James Tavernier to revert to right-back.
Oscar Cortes remains sidelined for the Scottish side, while Neraysho Kasanwirjo is a long-term absentee with a knee issue picked up while representing the Netherlands u-21 side.
Rangers predicted XI: Butland; Tavernier, Souttar, Propper, Jefte; Diomande, Raskin; Cerny, Igamane, Hagi; Dessers
Fenerbahce host Rangers in the Europa League’s last 16 on Thursday 6th March 2025. Kick-off in Istanbul is 17:45 GMT.
