Olympique Lyonnais are set to complete the signing of Real Betis defensive midfielder Paul Akouokou (25) with the latter currently undergoing his medical with the Ligue 1 side, according to a report from RMC Sport.
The Ivory Coast international will reportedly cost Les Gones a €3m transfer fee. Lyon were previously pursuing a move for Guido Rodríguez, Akouokou’s teammate at Real Betis. The Argentine 2022 World Cup winner eventually decided to stay put for personal reasons.
The 25-year-old, who first joined Real Betis’ reserve team in 2018 before making the jump to the senior squad in 2020, has made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Andalusians.
Lyon were in the market for months to sign a defensive midfielder before the deadline. OL head coach Laurent Blanc finally got his man. Akouokou is expected to sign a three-year deal with Lyon. Les Gones are winless in their first three Ligue 1 outings and will host champions PSG on Sunday.
