It’s safe to say that the €6m spent by Real Betis to sign Johnny Cardoso is looking like a bargain. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder arrived from Internacional in January, and he made the step up to La Liga with ease. He’s projected to be an important player in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad for next season, although there is a chance that he departs in the coming weeks.
As reported by MD, Fiorentina are very interested in a move for Johnny. Betis officials have no plans to sell the USMNT pivot, and they’ve established a €25m asking price that the Serie A side, or anyone else, would need to pay to ensure a transfer.
If Johnny were to leave for this amount, it would mean a €14m capital gain for Betis in approximately six months, as 20% (€5m) of the transfer fee would go to Internacional. That would be fantastic business, although club officials – including Pellegrini – would surely prefer to keep the midfielder.
