The future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid has once again become a topic of major speculation with the Brazilian national team going after the 65-year-old’s services.

The plan at Real Madrid was clear – Ancelotti would stay until 2026, fulfilling his contract. He managed to turn around a difficult season plagued by injuries and inconsistency, keeping the team in the hunt for La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.

However, Brazil’s urgent call after a humiliating 4-1 loss to Argentina has changed everything. The Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) sacked Dorival Junior on Friday and is desperate to secure Ancelotti before it’s too late, with the 2026 World Cup approaching.

Other names, such as Jorge Jesus, have also been linked, but Ancelotti remains Brazil’s number one choice.

Real Madrid ask Alonso to wait before committing to Leverkusen

As such, SPORT now reports that with Ancelotti’s decision pending, Xabi Alonso, the frontrunner to replace him at Real Madrid, is being asked to hold off on committing to Bayer Leverkusen, despite having a contract until 2026.

The sudden interest from Brazil has led Real Madrid to reach out to their former midfielder, asking him not to close the door on a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

This would explain Alonso’s comments on his future earlier this week, where he was vague about his situation and did not definitively commit to continuing at the Bundesliga club.

Real Madrid’s dilemma with Ancelotti

Within Real Madrid, there are voices in favour of Ancelotti leaving, believing the time is right for a fresh start with Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish capital club acknowledge that Brazil’s offer is highly attractive, and this time, Ancelotti may seriously consider it.

The club’s hierarchy believes the Italian will wait until the end of the season before making his final decision. Winning a treble could be a fitting way to end his illustrious club career before taking on a national team for the first time.

Ancelotti, for his part, has always expressed his desire to finish his contract at Real Madrid. But whether the latest approach from Brazil changes his mind remains to be seen.
