As the Spanish Super Cup kicks off today, the conversation around the competition’s revenue model has once again taken center stage.

Real Madrid, alongside Barcelona, traditionally benefits from a distribution system that sees the lion’s share of the €40 million paid by Saudi Arabia funneled towards the two giants.

This season, like others before it, promises significant financial gains for Real Madrid, even without lifting the trophy.

That said, Real Madrid, together with Barcelona, has taken steps to level the economic playing field.

According to MARCA, both clubs will share part of their considerable earnings with RCD Mallorca.

This gesture echoes last year’s action where, along with Atletico Madrid, they donated €200,000 each to Osasuna. This year, Mallorca benefits from this initiative.

Alfonso Díaz, the Balearic club’s business CEO, acknowledged the move in Jeddah, stating, “It has been raised, we have spoken about it and part of what was due to them, they have shared it. Yes, Real Madrid and Barça have shared it.”

This contribution from Real Madrid and Barcelona is not just about money; it’s a commitment to fostering a more equitable football community where smaller clubs can also thrive.

As far as the revenue distribution model is concerned, Real Madrid stand to gain the most this season. Thanks to their status as league champions, the Spanish giants will receive €6 million just for their participation in the tournament.

That figure can reach up to €9 million should Los Blancos go on to win the title.
