Controversy on the field in any Real Madrid game is often reduced to Vinicius Jr.’s fault even though the Brazilian is not always the instigator.

However, it is clear that he is the victim as often as he is the creator of the ruckus and Real Madrid staunchly believe the former was the case last night.

The game between Los Blancos and Mallorca in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup, after all, was largely overshadowed by the constant tussle between Vinicius and Pablo Maffeo – a rivalry that has been ongoing for a long time now.

Entering to destroy

As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, the Real Madrid dressing room believes that Mallorca’s Maffeo entered the field last night only with the intent of disrupting the flow of the game and bringing chaos.

They see that the Mallorca star knew well whom to provoke on the field and did that extensively in the 90 minutes that he played, creating massive controversy over trivial matters and unnecessarily escalating into fights.

Vinicius and Maffeo share a history of distaste, but the Spanish defender took it to a new level last night. It all began when he went down under a minimal challenge from Vinicius and brought the roof down.

It was not only the Brazilian, however, that Maffeo targeted at King Abdullah Sports City last night and he even went after Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio by passing cheap comments about the defender.

The fight that escalated between the two teams after the final whistle was thus clearly down to Maffeo’s doing and unnecessary interruptions and the Merengues’ dressing room is clear that they are not to blame in this regard.
