Real Madrid are looking to extend Antonio Rudiger’s contract as the German defender continues to impress at the heart of their defence.

Indeed, according to Kerry Hau of Sky Germany, initial talks between the club and the player have already begun, with both sides open to reaching an agreement soon.

A key player

Rudiger, 32, is under contract until 2026, but Real Madrid are considering offering him an early extension, potentially for two or even three years.

It would be an exception to their usual policy of offering only one-year deals to players over 30, but given the German international’s importance they are considering breaking the rule.

The centre-back, who recently avoided a suspension from UEFA after being investigated for his over-enthusaistic celebrations vs Atletico Madrid last month, has become a key figure for Los Blancos since arriving from Chelsea in 2022.

He has emerged as a leader in the backline for the Spanish capital giants during a phase riddled with injuries in defence.

Despite interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, who are prepared to make lucrative offers, Rudiger is said to feel deeply valued at the Santiago Bernabeu and is not currently tempted by a move away. After all, he is one of the most beloved members of the squad.

The 32-year-old’s desire is to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, and Real Madrid’s appreciation of his role could soon be reflected in an improved salary as part of the new deal.

If completed, the renewal would ensure Rudiger remains a key part of Real Madrid’s squad well into his mid-30s – something the club appears willing to do in this case due to the defender’s consistency and importance on and off the pitch.
