The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid are giving serious consideration to breaking a long-term club policy, to reward the efforts of defensive star Antonio Rüdiger.
That’s according to German football insider Kerry Hau, who has on Friday provided an insight into the situation.
Stopper Rüdiger has for his part of course continued to play a leading role for Real Madrid across the season to date.
Whilst Carlo Ancelotti has been forced to chop and change his defensive options owing to a whole host of injury concerns, the former Chelsea man has been the one constant for Los Blancos.
All told, Rüdiger has racked up 43 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with three goals along the way.
And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, then such exploits could well soon be rewarded.
As per a report from journalist Kerry Hau, talks have been opened between club and player over a contract extension for Rüdiger.
Not only that, but it is added:
‘Real Madrid’s over-30s typically only receive one-year contracts. An exception (2-3 years) is being considered for 32-year-old Rüdiger, whose current contract runs until 2026. His top performances will also be rewarded with a salary increase.’
