Real Madrid will be forced to make do without an important member of the club’s midfield ranks, in their efforts to get the better of RCD Mallorca later today.
This comes amid confirmation that Luka Modrić has been ruled out of the fixture.
Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action late this evening, in a Spanish Super Cup semi-final showdown with the aforementioned Mallorca.
A showpiece clash with Barcelona awaits the victor, after Hansi Flick’s side got the better of Athletic Club in the other semi-final on Wednesday.
As alluded to above, though, in their efforts to book a spot in the weekend’s finale, Los Blancos will not be able to call upon veteran midfielder Luka Modrić.
39-year-old Modrić is in a fine stretch of individual form at present, having found the net in each of his last two appearances.
As confirmed in a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms on Thursday, however:
‘Luka Modrić will not be available for today’s game against RCD Mallorca due to a viral illness. His progress will be monitored.’
