Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has this weekend secured for himself a fresh, and altogether prestigious individual accolade.
The prize in question? French Player of the Year for 2023/24.
Mbappé’s victory was announced by France Football on Saturday afternoon, with the 25-year-old having already been handed his trophy.
This marks the 4th time that Mbappé has been named France’s standout performer across his career to date.
The former Paris Saint-Germain, as a result, sits 2nd in the all-time list, alongside Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema, and just one behind Thierry Henry.
Mbappé’s closest competitor for the award, according to Goal, was Arsenal star William Saliba, with the former having garnered 56 points to his fellow countryman’s 51.
Saturday’s announcement regarding as much has already caused quite a stir, with Mbappé of course having come in for widespread criticism across the season to date, amid a challenging early period in the colours of Real Madrid.
