Nothing about Juma Bah’s rise through the footballing world has been normal. The 18-year-old was signed while working at a gas station in Sierra Leone as part of the club’s long-term strategy to find young African players with mountains of potential.
It seems the club did just that, with a Manchester City move and loan to RC Lens reportedly in the young man’s future. It is however the method to earn this move that has left Valladolid fuming.
The young defender ‘unilaterally broke his contract’ by not showing up to training in the wake of interest from Man City, leaving the club in a position where they are considering taking legal action.
The club is especially disappointed given the opportunity they offered Bah, The club were the ones to help the 18-year-old make the move from Africa to Europe.
The player seems to have been guided in this move by Man City and by his agent, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of his previous club.
It is very rare to see a rise quite as rapid in football as has been the case with Juma Bah, and plenty of people will be keeping an eye on the youngster following this development.
