According to a report from Agence France Presse Ligue 1 referee Jérémy Stinat has taken legal action after the tyres of his two vehicles were punctured at his home before Olympique de Marseille’s match against Auxerre when a controversial sending off took place for OM defender Derek Cornelius. Referee filed a complaint with the relevant authorities and an investigation has reportedly has already begun. At this stage, the justice system does not mention a ‘proven link’ with his profession as a referee. The gendarmerie opened an investigation on Sunday for ‘damage to a vehicle’, Benoît Fontaine, public prosecutor in Dax, told AFP, confirming a report from L’Équipe. “Assuming it is characterised, (this damage) does not present any proven link with Mr Stinat’s professional activity as it stands”, the magistrate emphasised. The president of the French Football President, Phillipe Diallo, revealed that the tyres of both of Stinat’s Vehicles were punctured before the Marseille – Auxerre match in Ligue 1, which saw the home side grab a surprise win against Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympiens. “His wife noticed it when she was about to take the motorway,” said Diallo in an interview with L’Équipe on Sunday. Stinat was then strongly condemned for sending off Marseille defender Cornelius, with Marseille’s president Pablo Longoria filmed in an outburst of anger, along with comments from institutional advisor Fabrizio Ravanelli as well as head coach De Zerbi.
