Liverpool’s Growing Interest in Kenan Yildiz – A Smart Move or a Luxury Signing?

Liverpool’s squad depth has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, with signs of fatigue creeping into their performances. As the intensity of the season takes its toll, Arne Slot may look to bolster his attacking options this summer. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool have a growing interest in Juventus’ rising star, Kenan Yildiz.

Squad Depth Concerns Spark Transfer Plans

Despite Liverpool’s impressive campaign, there have been visible signs of wear and tear among key players. The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch have looked exhausted in recent weeks, with the relentless fixture schedule taking its toll.

In attack, rotation has been limited. Injuries and inconsistency have meant that Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, and Diogo Jota have struggled to provide reliable alternatives to Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz. Slot’s limited ability to rotate has made recruitment a priority ahead of the summer window.

Kenan Yildiz – A Star in the Making

The latest reports suggest that Liverpool are among several top European clubs tracking Kenan Yildiz. The Turkish forward has been a standout performer for Juventus this season, flourishing under Thiago Motta. Primarily deployed on the left flank, he has also demonstrated his ability to play centrally and on the right wing.

The 19-year-old has already made 37 appearances this season, directly contributing to 11 goals. Juventus, however, may be forced to sell if they fail to secure Champions League football, with Yildiz’s market value reportedly between £66m and £75m.

Tactical Fit and Liverpool’s Priorities

While Yildiz is undoubtedly a versatile talent, Liverpool’s current squad composition raises questions about the necessity of his signing. Slot already has Diaz and Gakpo as strong options on the left flank, and with Salah still playing a pivotal role on the right, there is no immediate urgency to recruit in those areas.

However, Yildiz’s ability to operate centrally and provide depth across the frontline could make him a valuable asset. His technical ability, decision-making, and composure in the final third make him a player with immense potential.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

Liverpool’s reported interest in Kenan Yildiz is certainly intriguing, but does it make sense given the club’s immediate needs?

There is no denying that Liverpool require reinforcements, but with midfield and defensive signings arguably higher priorities, spending £66m-£75m on a teenage forward might not be the most effective use of resources.

For many sceptical Liverpool supporters, the biggest concern is whether Yildiz’s potential justifies the significant outlay. While he has performed well for Juventus, he is still young and relatively unproven at the highest level. Investing such a fee in a player who may not immediately displace Liverpool’s current attackers is a calculated risk.

Moreover, Liverpool’s attacking depth is not the most pressing concern. The club needs reinforcements in defensive areas, particularly at centre-back and right-back, before considering luxury additions to an already strong forward line.

That said, if Liverpool are planning for the future, Yildiz fits the profile of a long-term investment. He has the potential to develop into a top-class forward, and with the right coaching under Slot, he could become a valuable piece in Liverpool’s attacking puzzle. However, whether Liverpool pull the trigger on this deal or prioritise reinforcements in more pressing areas remains to be seen.
