Kostas Tsimikas Faces Uncertain Future Amid Premier League Interest

Mixed Season Highlights Tsimikas’ Changing Role

Kostas Tsimikas arrived at Liverpool with the promise of being more than just backup. In flashes, he’s lived up to that billing. Yet as the 2024/25 season approaches its close, his future on Merseyside appears increasingly fragile.

Having made 26 appearances this campaign under Arne Slot, the Greek international has started only 15 matches. Most of those came during the first half of the season when Andy Robertson was working his way back to full fitness. Slot leant on Tsimikas early on, but an ill-timed injury late last year curtailed his rhythm and restricted his role.

Since returning, he’s found minutes harder to come by, often watching on as Robertson reclaimed his spot. And while Tsimikas remains a popular figure in the dressing room, his status in the squad has notably shifted.

Summer Move Becoming Likely

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a new left-back, with Milos Kerkez emerging as a primary target. That development, coupled with Tsimikas’ peripheral role in recent months, has fuelled speculation over a potential exit.

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos has reported that at least three Premier League clubs are interested in signing Tsimikas. While no names have yet been confirmed, it is understood that clubs seeking an experienced, attack-minded full-back are monitoring his situation.

Despite the growing interest, Chorianopoulos also noted that a summer departure is not guaranteed. The 28-year-old still has time left on his current deal, and Liverpool are unlikely to let him leave without securing adequate cover.

Healthy Rivalry with Robertson Remains Intact

Publicly, there is no discontent. Tsimikas continues to speak positively about life at Liverpool, and particularly his relationship with Robertson.

“I really enjoy [it], I really want to play,” Tsimikas said. “I just train really hard, I think all the people know that from the team. I’m really enjoying playing.”

“For me and Robbo, it’s very healthy competition always, we help each other and always try to push each other to the limits.”

“At the moment I really enjoy playing with these teammates in this team and giving absolutely everything, as I do all the time.”

That sort of professionalism has always endeared Tsimikas to the Anfield faithful, even as his game time has dwindled. But he is approaching a stage in his career where regular minutes will likely take priority over sentiment.

Liverpool Must Decide on Defensive Depth

For Liverpool, Tsimikas’ future is tied to broader strategic decisions. Arne Slot will need to assess whether the Greek full-back fits the tactical shape he’s refining or if a fresher alternative is needed.

While Tsimikas has rarely let Liverpool down when called upon, injuries and inconsistency have prevented him from making the position his own. As clubs circle and Robertson’s place remains secure, a parting of ways feels increasingly logical – even if it’s not yet certain.

One thing is clear: Kostas Tsimikas is too talented to sit idle. Whether that next chapter is at Anfield or elsewhere, he won’t be short on offers.
