Alessandro Bastoni, Marcus Thuram, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will get a rest against Empoli, while Mehdi Taremi and Kristjan Asllani will start.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter take on Empoli in Serie A this evening. But it will just be the first of four matches before the end of January.
Then, things don’t get any easier for the Nerazzurri in February. The second league derby against AC Milan of the season kicks off a run of very daunting fixtures.
Meanwhile, Inter were only just in action during the week. They drew with Bologna on Wednesday.
The Gazzetta report that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is thinking of squad rotation.
The coach wants to keep some key starters fresh for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Sparta Prague. Three points will be essential for round of sixteen qualification.
Accordingly, this will not be like earlier in the season where Inzaghi prioritized playing a full-strength eleven in the league but rotated in Europe.
Therefore, all of Alessandro Bastoni, Marcus Thuram, and a just-returning Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be on the bench at the start of this evening’s match.
Carlos Augusto will start in defense in place of Bastoni.
Meanwhile, in midfield Kristjan Asllani will keep his place. As will Piotr Zielinski.
And in attack, Mehdi Taremi will get his chance. He will partner captain Lautaro Martinez.
