Rodgers targets Tierney plus a left-winger as Palma’s time looks up

Brendan looking for reinforcements in the left side attack signals the end for Luis Palma. Not that we should be surprised…

According to the reliable Stephen McGowan of the Scottish Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in a left-sided attacker to provide Daizen Maeda with serious competition for the second half of the season.

McGowan reports in Daily Mail: “Rodgers held a transfer planning summit with major shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Michael Nicholson in Dublin last week, when they discussed new arrivals in January.

A left-winger is a priority

“A left-winger is a priority. Regardless of whether left-back Greg Taylor commits to a new deal, Rodgers would also like to secure Kieran Tierney for a Parkhead return.”

That is much welcome news, but something that will hardly come as a surprise to anyone in the Celtic support. It was quite obvious on Sunday, well it has been for a few weeks now that we are lacking something of a cutting edge in that department.

Luis Palma clearly doesn’t want to be here and with apparently Brendan Rodgers not keen on him he will almost certainly be shipped out in January either on loan or permanently probably to the United States.

Luis Palma isn’t suited to our style of play

While he tried his best to influence the game on Sunday after appearing from the bench, it’s quite clear that Luis isn’t suited to our style of play and maybe the weather too. It was freezing cold at Tannadice and perhaps the Scottish weather isn’t to the Honduran’s liking. Emilio wore gloves and got on with it!

Luis doesn’t have the hard work ethic, determination or crucially the pace to beat his opponent. He’s quite the opposite of a Brendan Rodgers player, and it makes you wonder why he was signed in the first place. He was NOT a Brendan Rodgers signing but was part of that weird recruitment drive when we knew Ange was leaving but before Brendan had taken control of recruitment matters.

We need better quality and suitability and Brendan has unsurprisingly chosen to rectify that in the January window.

Yang has had two starts this season and has fluffed his lines on both occasions. He has looked threatening when coming off the bench but nothing has actually come from his efforts from the bench. He is apparently a stand-out in training but hasn’t been able to show it properly on match day and on Sunday at Tannadice he was quite frankly, terrible.

While Brendan might put that to one side and persist with the Korean winger, his position is likely to come under review in the summer.

That fella Jota can play wide left. If only his club were prepared to cut their losses and sell him on….I doubt he’ll be the one coming in though.
