Both David Raum and Xavi Simons have been sidelined with ankle problems since October.

And although they're both making progress, the duo will remain sidelined for the rest of the year, RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose confirmed on Friday.

“Both are in rehabilitation. They had the same kind of ankle injury, but David has needed more healing time than Xavi. So you can't expect Raum to be ready any sooner, even though he's been out for a while," Rose said at a press conference.

"The tendency is that both will be back on the training ground on 2 January.”

Kevin Kampl, who has been struggling with adductor problems, will be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Holstein Kiel, but Rose is hoping he won't have to play him.

“We will take him to Kiel. He'll be on the bench and be an option. But if we can avoid it, we'll rest him in Kiel as well.”
