Julen Lopetegui has failed to make a positive impact at West Ham United since taking over in the summer.

With five wins from 16 matches, the Hammers are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League standings.

Given their enormous summer transfer spending, West Ham should have been doing much better than now.

However, there remains big question marks over whether Lopetegui is the right man to take the club to the next level.

The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas says West Ham haven’t been a sacking club historically, as they tend to give their managers more time than most clubs.

Despite bad results in October, the club’s hierarchy reportedly had no intention of weighing up the financial cost of dismissing Lopetegui.

However, they held a board meeting earlier this month after successive losses to Arsenal and Leicester City, deciding the Spaniard would be given more time to improve their fortunes.

The Irons have shown signs of improvement in previous two fixtures against Wolves and Bournemouth.

And if Lopetegui sustains that upturn in form against Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and Liverpool, Roshane believes the former Real Madrid boss could easily have a longer stint in charge.

Difficult game on Saturday

West Ham will welcome Brighton to the London Stadium this weekend. The Seagulls are a better team than the Irons, as they are sitting ninth in the Premier League table.

Fabian Hürzeler’s side are currently enduring a four-game winless run, but they are capable of bouncing back against the East Londoners on Saturday.

The Hammers were relatively better against Bournemouth last time, but their overall performance was far from convincing.
