Reynolds has opened up on his ownership of the Red Dragons in a talk with the Obama Foundation 2024 Democracy Forum
Ryan Reynolds has revealed his stance on his ownership of League One side Wrexham, amid a recent sale of a minority stake in the club to the wealthy Allyn family.
The Hollywood star has a joint majority ownership with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, and they have overseen the club’s rise from non-league to the third tier of the English football pyramid.
However, the pair sold some of their shares to bring the Allyn family - who made their money in the medical sector - on board as minority investors into the club earlier this year.
Reynolds and McElhenney have earned a lot of praise as co-owners, with their arrival also playing a part in raising the profile of the club on a worldwide scale, as well as the series Welcome to Wrexham, which they executive produce.
Reynolds has made it clear the place that Wrexham holds in his heart after a successful first three years with the club.
The Canadian actor has also revealed that he wants to continue his enjoyment of owning the club, despite investors purchasing some of his shares in the team earlier this year and coming on board.
“Sports, music and movies are all experiences that require us to check our bulls**t at the door,” Reynolds told the Obama Foundation 2024 Democracy Forum, via Wales Online.
“We all get to feel the same thing for a minute in a world that's so tribal and we all get to root for the same thing.
“We take our hats off and whatever our tribal colours are, and we all get to feel something pretty special together.
“Wrexham has been the joy of my life, and it’s an ongoing joy.
“It is something that I've learned so much from.”
Phil Parkinson’s side have earned back-to-back promotions in the last two campaigns, and are again in the mix for another top two spot.
Wrexham have their sights set on the Championship, with the club last playing at that level in 1982.
Four wins from their last four games has kept the Red Dragons inside an automatic promotion place, albeit while having played more games than their rivals.
Next up for Wrexham in the league is a home clash against Cambridge United on 14 December in a 3pm kick-off.
Reynolds and McElhenney have brought Wrexham very far already, but it would surely be too soon for their commitment to the club to change.
The introduction of the Allyn family as fresh investors could be seen as the beginning of the end, but it is likelier that they want the extra funds to come in to help with scale.
The club has gone from the National League to playing at the top of League One very quickly, which will make it harder and harder to compete financially, especially if they are to gain promotion again this year.
