Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has reportedly been talking with Alejandro Garnacho amidst strong links to Napoli.
United are believed to be open to parting ways with Garnacho as his exit would ensure the club’s compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte has settled on Garnacho as his primary target to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is on the brink of sealing a blockbuster switch to reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
More recently, there were suggestions from Italy that Napoli submitted a bid to United for Garnacho.
It was indicated that this offer was worth around €45 million euros (£38m), including bonuses. Earlier today, Ben Jacobs relayed that United want nothing less than £70m for Garnacho – a sum that Napoli may deem excessive.
Now, areanapoli.it have revealed that Gli Azzurri are “serious” about landing Garnacho and want to “close the deal as soon as possible.”
It’s understood that club chief Giovanni Manna has already initiated contact with the Carrington academy graduate’s agents.
Alexander Sepe of areanapoli.it adds, “Antonio Conte was fascinated by the quality of the Argentine player who would find a great friend of his in blue.”
“We are talking about Scott McTominay who in these days is in contact with him.”
“The two know each other very well, having shared the United environment for four years. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to lift a trophy together. The possible sale of Garnacho could be around 50 million euros, a figure that will not be easy for Napoli to reach, but the situation could evolve.”
McTominay of course left United in August 2024 for Naples, where he has proven to be a hit.
The Scotland international is playing a crucial role for the side in their push to win the Scudetto ahead of challengers like Inter Milan and Atalanta.
So far this term, McTominay has notched an impressive four goals and three assists in 17 Serie A appearances.
