Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce today that striker Sean Boyd has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term deal with the League of Ireland champions.
Boyd, who has been a pivotal player since joining Damien Duff’s side from Finn Harps in November 2021, has scored 30 goals in 76 appearances for the Reds.
His standout performances came in the Reds’ 2024 title-winning campaign where the Swords native hit 10 league goals last term, more than any other Shelbourne player, and played a crucial role in ending the club’s 18 year wait to recapture the League of Ireland crown.
Boyd’s form in the run-in was instrumental, with three goals in the final three games securing vital wins against Waterford and Drogheda, before clinching the title with a 1-0 win over Derry City.
This late season spark saw the 26-year-old named the Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for October.
Boyd’s commitment to Shels follows significant interest from other clubs inside and outside of Ireland. In the summer of 2024, the club exercised a one year contract extension for Boyd, his contribution has earned him a new and improved long term deal at Tolka Park.
Sean Boyd said: “Over the moon to be extending my stay at this amazing club. I’ve loved every second since I’ve signed and with the staff and people behind the scenes working relentlessly to improve everyday I felt like it was a no brainer to commit my future to Tolka Park. Can’t wait to see the best fans in the country back at Tolka this season.”
Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC manager, said: “It is very simple. I go to war, the big man is coming with me. Sean knows what we want to build here and he is going to be relentless in helping us do it.”.
Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC Technical Director, said: “Sean has been a massive part of the success of the club in recent years. He’s become a fan favourite and huge part of our dressing room, helping to drive the culture of the team. Sean shares our ambition to reach new heights and achieve more success in the coming years and there is even more development and improvement in Sean. His relationship with the club is something that is very important to him and we are delighted that his future for the next few years will be with us.”
As Boyd prepares for his fourth season with the Reds in 2025, Shelbourne fans can look forward to seeing the big man in action in the coming weeks.
