Paulo Dybala returns to the starting XI with Artem Dovbyk as Claudio Ranieri seeks his first Roma victory, hosting on-form Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui and Ademola Lookman.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome at 19.45 GMT.

The Giallorossi are on their fourth coach of 2024 and Ranieri has his first match on home turf after a 1-0 defeat at Napoli and Thursday’s 2-2 comeback thriller with Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.

That fightback showed the spirit they’ve been sorely lacking and Mats Hummels scored the equaliser, so gets a rare Serie A start here.

Mario Hermoso is injured, with Nicolò Pisilli suspended in midfield.

Dybala is fit to play with Dovbyk upfront, but it’s a 3-5-2 formation with Stephan El Shaarawy on the bench.

Atalanta won their last seven Serie A matches and are fresh from Tuesday’s 6-1 demolition of Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League.

Because Fiorentina-Inter was suspended due to Edoardo Bove’s medical emergency (a player still owned by Roma and a product of their youth academy) and Lazio lost to Parma, it means any positive result here would send La Dea clear in second place as they try to keep pace with Antonio Conte’s leaders Napoli.

Ederson was suspended midweek and returns here, but Davide Zappacosta, Ben Godfrey and Gianluca Scamacca are still injured.

Charles De Ketelaere had an incredible performance against Young Boys, scoring two and assisting three, and completes the trident attack.

Mateo Retegui is hoping to add to his tally as Capocannoniere with Lookman, who was rested in Switzerland.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini must watch from the stands, as he begins a two-game touchline ban for dissent.
