Southampton's emerging defender Ronnie Edwards has been turning heads since joining QPR.
It goes without saying that a good portion of Southampton fans enjoy Championship football. Don't worry, I am not saying the Saints should pursue returning to the EFL in the near future.
Instead, any Saint would find numerous Southampton acquaintances if they tune in to watch the Championship. Obviously, that's because a majority of current and former Southampton players are plying their trade there.
Most recently, January loanees Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong scored their first goals as well. Still, Southampton's biggest winter success story has been QPR's new defensive general Ronnie Edwards.
For starters, Edwards joined the Saints for a fraction of the transfer funds they invested in the striker duo. Furthermore, the dominating defensive ace even played multiple roles on his debut.
Since then, Edwards has gone strength to strength becoming an integral part of QPR's defensive ranks. To give the extent, the 21-year-old has nailed down a starting role in such a short duration.
Admiring Edwards' rapid progress, QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes is elated to have a player profile like him on the roster.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Marti Cifuentes said: "The club did well to bring him in. It has been a win-win situation for both us and Southampton."
Well, the Saints might also be smiling ear to ear witnessing Edwards' smooth adaptation at QPR. The priority idea they should have is to try negotiating a sizeable transfer offer for him during the preseason.
That way, Southampton could make a quick profit which they can add to their summer transfer budget. Apart from that, a senior team role for Edwards isn't a diminishing probability either.
Jan Bednarek is expected to attract transfer interest again, and may not decide to stay put in the Championship this time. If that situation arises, Edwards could be a trusted option to command the defence alongside Harwood-Bellis.
