Southampton must avoid Luton Town's promotion champion at any cost

Southampton have been suggested a cost effective head coach candidate Rob Edwards. Yet, witnessing his downward trajectory at Luton Town, Southampton shouldn't consider him as part of their recruitment shortlist.

Honestly, the Championship isn't an elite tournament like the Premier League but it remains associated with top flight football every season. One of the biggest reasons behind this surprising trend is that high-flying second division clubs have many tempting assets available for grabs.

Also, hiring emerging managers with new ideas is a well known belief that is proven to work almost everytime. At Southampton, this notion can be felt visibly with the board's unbridled desire to sign Danny Rohl.

Well, a good chunk of the fanbase might still want them to reassess the market for more reputable alternatives. After all, someone who has delivered promotion expectations and may not command a transfer fee will save the club some resources and stress in the long run.

Firstly, if you also think this way, then Lee Hendrie has a glowing option in store for you.

In his own words, Hendrie was quoted by the Football League World: "Rob Edwards has capabilities of promotion and he's a really good guy on all basis."

Rob Edwards' arrival would be a step back for Southampton

If you aren't familiar with Rob Edwards, then you must recall last season's Luton Town team. Yes, he was their gaffer who led them to achieve their Premier League return.

I know they were relegated eventually but his profile isn't something to be taken lightly. And if not for Luton's current Championship journey, Southampton would be happy to even enter into a bidding battle for his signature.

Luton's fall from grace has been intriguing and it's even more baffling that a majority of that came under Rob Edwards only. Call it a second season syndrome but Southampton would resonate well with them given they also experienced contrasting successes under Russell Martin.

Hence, staying away from Rob Edwards is a blatantly wise decision at least for now. Let's hope that the club also maintains a similar stance on him regardless of Hendrie's flattering praises.
