Victor Udoh opened his Southampton U21 tally with a brace against Sunderland U21. Former Sunderland striker Ross Stewart also started for the Saints but was bettered by Udoh up front.
English top flight is rightfully labeled as the most competitive football league. Be it the Premier League or the U21 division, thrilling clashes remain the most enticing matches of every campaign.
Currently, Southampton is set to host Brighton, thus, most Saints will have their attention glued to the kickoff whistle. In the meanwhile, if you didn't watch the U21 team yesterday, you missed out on a Premier League 2 classic.
Similar to the senior team, Southampton's U21 squad welcomed Sunderland U21 for a home game. Unlike other games, this fixture was different with forgotten Saints' striker Ross Stewart starting in the front three.
Honestly, many fans could be forgiven for not knowing Stewart in the first place. Well, Southampton signed him two years ago but his frequent injuries have restricted him to very limited playing time since then.
As an estimate of his lengthy absence, the Daily Echo wrote: "Stewart's last appearance for Saints was in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in October, where he was substituted with an injury after just 27 minutes."
Thus, the tall centre forward led the attacking unit alongside Victor Udoh. While the former didn't make an outstanding comeback, Udoh inspired the home side with his first club goals.
A few weeks ago, Udoh made his U21 debut and here his brace helped Southampton stage a 3-3 comeback. Understandably, the teenage attacker must be on cloud nine after his heroic performance.
