Analysing every first-team starter's contribution which enabled Southampton to keep aside their prolonged agony at St. Mary's.
As opposed to the past year, Southampton has hardly got anything to cheer in terms of their match outcomes. Talking about home games, the St. Mary's has largely appeared devoid of enthusiasm on the Premier League stages.
Well, these consequences are bound to happen if the Saints keep on stretching their losing strings to unbelievable lows. Yesterday, that calamitous run came to a stop thanks to an almost victory-like team performance.
Now, some players outshone each other as well as the rest put in a few dwindling displays that went unnoticed but otherwise would have been the biggest talking points of the evening. Hence, let's see how every starting player contributed to the home draw on a scale of 1-10.
GK - Aaron Ramsdale: 6
Called into action quickly to deny Mateta from inside the box. Later, did manage a finger-tip attempt on the Palace goal but couldn't succeed.
LWB - Ryan Manning: 6
Mostly stayed near the other defenders and didn't allow Palace to take much shots from the left side.
CB - Jan Bednarek: 5
An inconsistent centre-back display all night. Great at making tackles but his occasional mistakes gave significant stress to the defence and the home fans at times.
CB - Jack Stephens: 8
Always stepped up during defensive phases which was remarkable to watch. With this standout performance, Stephens has become a favourite to play as the third central defender in every game.
CB - Taylor Harwood-Bellis: 7
Felt comfortable in a back-three and often advanced forward as a right-back in Walker-Peters' absence.
RWB - Kyle Walker-Peters: 8
Started the match close to the right flank and played multiple passing sequences with Mateus Fernandes to bring Southampton closer to the penalty area. Came close to recording an assist as well but mistimed his pass beyond Onuachu.
CM - Flynn Downes: 7
Filled Joe Aribo's void well and orchestrated plenty of through-passes in search of goals. Unfortunately, Southampton will have to handle Tottenham's midfield without Downes on Sunday.
CM - Lesley Ugochukwu: 6
Maintained his composure while passing and outperformed Palace attackers with his rapid pace.
CAM - Mateus Fernandes: 7
Constantly created a host of counter-attacks for Southampton and gave an inch-perfect pass for Onuachu to get the better of Dean Henderson's saving efforts.
ST - Kamaldeen Sulemana: 5
A quiet game by his regular standards and as a result, remained near the halfway line to lend a helping hand to the midfield.
ST - Paul Onuachu: 9
