Sky Sports have mentioned Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin as Southampton's best possible summer signing.

Most Southampton fans will agree that this season, frequent lows don't affect them that hard anymore. Still, only until, it's about the departure of a Saints veteran.

By now, you must've guessed it right. Yes, we talk of Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters' departure, which looks certain this summer.

Well, needless to say, the consistent full-back’s potential exit would leave a deep void at Southampton. After all, not only has he been one of the club's best players in his Saints tenure, but one of the most versatile ones too.

Add to that near the end of his half-a-decade stay, Walker-Peters' free move would cost Southampton one of its longest-serving names.

It’s clear the Saints will struggle to replace Walker-Peters quickly, right? But actually, the club might cut a long hassle short if they follow expert advice.

Recently, in a special segment, Sky Sports pundits shortlisted one must-do signing for every Premier League club this summer. Interestingly, the name suggested for Southampton will directly ease out their Walker-Peters replacement hunt.

Ok, let's not suspense it further, it's Championship talent Dennis Cirkin. A 22-year-old left-back, Cirkin's consistently brilliant second-division season has compelled many to consider him.

Southampton must approach a potential Cirkin move strategically

But, how he is a perfect Southampton fit? This is because of sharing a similar playing style, a balanced defensive and offensive game to Walker-Peters. Interestingly, besides this, Cirkin shares similar Tottenham origins with Walker-Peters, making him a like-to-like replacement for the veteran.

Sounds quite compelling so far, right? It does, but Southampton must beware of just one thing.

Notably, Cirkin is another Championship hit from Sunderland, giving promise the way Ross Stewart gave two years ago. But, eventually, the latter failed.

That’s why the Saints should be cautious about a permanent move, testing Cirkin on loan first might be the smarter play. That way, Southampton escape risking a big fee on the Sunderland player, with their needs met.

Hopefully, in case a move goes through, we see Cirkin replicate his Sunderland heroics in a like-patterned Saints outfit.
