Spurs have been handed yet another huge injury blow as Radu Dragusin has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The centre-back was forced off the pitch in the 66th minute of Tottenham Hotspur‘s 3-0 win over Elfsborg in the Uefa Europa League last week.
The Romania international attempted to play on after sustaining an injury, but was eventually replaced by striker Dane Scarlett.
At the weekend Lilywhites manager Ange Postecoglou said that the injury “doesn’t look good” and the Australian’s prognosis has proven correct after the club confirmed the extent of it.
The club revealed in a social media post that Dragusin will undergo surgery for an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury to his right knee.
“Radu will be assessed by our medical team to determine when he can return to training,” the statement read.
The news comes just two days before Spurs face Liverpool in the return leg of their League Cup semi-final at Anfield. They won the first leg 1-0 at home, but are missing a number of key players for Thursday’s clash.
Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Destiny Udogie, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson are all on the treatment table.
Spurs did recruit reinforcements during the January transfer window, signing defender Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens and forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, which is a loan deal including an option to buy. The club may regret not bringing in another centre-back before the deadline given their extensive problems in that position.
