According to a report from media publication CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in FC Porto striker Samu Omorodion.

Spurs looking at FC Porto and Spain international centre forward

After a loan spell at Deportivo Alaves from Atletico Madrid last season, the striker made the permanent switch to Porto in the summer of 2024. So far in Liga Portugal, he has scored 14 goals in just 1552 minutes of football, scoring at a rate of a goal every 111 minutes - with three assists on top.

He also scored six goals in nine Europa League games, including a brace against Manchester United, and a goal against AS Roma in the play-off round, though that wasn't enough to prevent the Portuguese giants exiting the competition.

Owing to his excellent form in Portugal, Omorodion made the jump from the Spain U21 side to the senior team in November of 2024, making his debut as a half time substitution in a 3-2 nations league win over Switzerland - a game where Spurs loanee Bryan Gil scored his first goal for his country.

In terms of profile, the 20-year old is, to put it very simply, a unit. Standing at around 6'4 tall, he is a serious beast in the air - and has scored five headed goals this season across the domestic and Europa League.

Undoubtedly a brilliant player, with a lot of potential - this is still a weird fit. For two reasons, he is not the player that Spurs could do with. Firstly, an out and out centre forward is just not the profile that is a priority at the moment, after making a significant investment to secure the services of Dominic Solanke last summer.

Second of all, Spurs have more than enough young players - seriously. There is nothing wrong with signing young players in isolation, and in a few years, you would expect a number of the current squad, but there has to be a balance.

Looking at players whom have played a significant amount of minutes for the first team so far this campaign; Archie Gray is 18, Lucas Bergvall turned 19 last month, Destiny Udogie and Pape Sarr are 22. Even Micky van de Ven is still just 23, as is Brennan Johnson. An established player like Dejan Kulusevski is still 24. Then there was the acquisiton of 19-year old Mathys Tel in January, as well as 21-year old Antonin Kinsky (even more emphasis being a keeper).
