Stoke City were linked with a move to sign Alex Timossi Andersson during the January window

Alex Timossi Andersson, a January transfer target of Stoke City, has claimed that he would be excited by the prospect of joining the club if a move arose in the summer.

It was reported last month by Swedish outlet Expressen that the Potters were keen to sign the IF Brommapojkarna winger.

However, no deal materialised before Monday’s transfer deadline, meaning he is now preparing for the start of the Allsvenskan season in Sweden.

The 24-year-old has been a regular presence in the Brommapojkarna side over the last year or so, playing 29 times out of their 30 league matches in 2024, with plenty of his outings coming at wing-back too

Andersson responded to the speculation over his future in a recent interview, suggesting that his focus is primarily now on getting ready for the new season in Sweden.

However, he has made it clear that he would like Stoke to keep an interest in him, and that he’d be honoured to play for a club of their stature some day.

“It is of course nice that there is interest, but I just try to focus on the football all the time and where I am right now, and not to try to go away from it,” Andersson said, via FotbollSkanalen.

“I'm still in BP and it feels damn good now at the beginning of the season.

“We'll have to see [if Stoke remain interested]. I hope so.

“I don't think BP would have been against it either.

“But now there has not been enough concrete interest so it has become something.

“But of course it would have been great fun to play for such a big club.”

Summer move for Alex Timossi Andersson to Stoke City could be on the cards

Stoke weren’t too active in the January market, with the club looking to stay within the financial regulations - losing Tom Cannon from his season long loan agreement though would not have helped the mood around the camp.

Two loan deals were completed in the first month of the year though, with Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Ali Al-Hamadi brought into the club for the rest of the season from Man City and Ipswich Town respectively, whilst prolific young striker Nathan Lowe was recalled from Walsall.

Any more deals might have needed to wait until the summer though when the financial picture might be a bit clearer for the club - it is clear that profit and sustainability regulations have somewhat hamstrung a lot of second tier clubs and their ability to make moves halfway through the season.

In that event though, a move for Andersson could still be pursued at the end of the campaign, as he is a player that can give Mark Robins some useful versatility on the pitch.

Whilst Coventry manager, we saw Robins move between a back three with wing backs and a back four with wingers. Andersson can play as both a wing-back and a winger judging by his time in Sweden recently, so he could be a smart player to invest in come the middle of 2025.
