Nick Woltemade’s controversial suspension will lead to Deniz Undav receiving a VfB Stuttgart start this weekend. This was confirmed by VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß at his Friday pre-match press conference. Stuttgart travel to Köpenick on Saturday to take on Union Berlin in the Bundesliga’s evening Topspiel.
Undav’s form struggles this season are among the reasons the current campaign has been a big disappointment for the 2023/24 Bundesliga runners up. Thankfully for the Swabians, Woltemade has emerged as a player capable of playing both as a classic nine and a ten behind lead striker Ermedin Demirovic.
Hoeneß’ guaranteed start for Undav will surely see the former Brighton & Hove Albion man work as a ten behind Demirovic. The latter has been in much better form as of late, meaning that Undav can hope to deliver a successful performance. Stuttgart face an Union side eager to clinch Bundesliga safety at home.
“Deniz will play,” Hoeneß confirmed on Friday. “I can confirm that much.“
