Stuttgart

Stuttgart have made a fine start to 2025, having taken maximum points from their first two matches of the calendar year. Die Schwaben kicked off the year with a 1-0 win over Augsburg, before they claimed a narrow 2-1 victory in Wednesday’s home clash with RB Leipzig. Jacob Bruun Larsen cancelled out Benjamin Šeško’s opener, before Nick Woltemade found the net on the hour mark to give his team a narrow lead. Stuttgart saw out the remainder of the contest in which Leipzig were reduced to nine men late on following red cards for Šeško and Loïs Openda.

Having won four of their last five matches, Sebastian Hoeneß's side are sitting in fifth position with just one point separating them from the top four. Die Schwaben have also won three of their previous four home league games, ensuring they will head into Saturday’s fixture in a confident mood. Stuttgart enjoyed a successful outing in their most recent home meeting with Freiburg in September 2023, producing a free-scoring display to clinch a 5-0 win.

Team News

Stuttgart are expected to be without Dan-Axel Zagadou, Justin Diehl, Luca Raimund and El Bilal Touré.

Freiburg

Freiburg are sitting two points adrift of Stuttgart in eighth position after winning eight, drawing three and losing six of their 17 league matches. They recorded their most recent victory in their opening game of 2025, surviving a late Holstein Kiel fightback to claim a 3-2 home win. Unfortunately for Julian Schuster, his side experienced a disappointing outing in Tuesday’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, falling to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Deutsche Bank Park.

That result extended their winless away run to seven Bundesliga matches, meaning they have gone over three months since recording their most recent away league win over Werder Bremen on October 5. They will be desperate to end that run on Saturday, with the visitors looking to complete a Bundesliga double over Stuttgart after claiming a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture in August. The first goal could be crucial to those hopes because they lost all three away league matches where they have conceded first this season.

Team News

The visitors are unable to call upon Bruno Ogbus and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh due to Achilles and knee injuries respectively.
