FC Barcelona might be preparing for their Spanish Super Cup clash against Athletic Bilbao, but they continue to grapple with off-the-field challenges. Chief among them is the pressing issue of player registrations, particularly concerning Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.
Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor were the only two players Barcelona signed during the summer transfer window. The duo was temporarily registered for La Liga at the time, following an injury to Andreas Christensen. However, now that January has arrived, the club finds itself facing the same registration issues once again.
The past few weeks, or perhaps the last month, have dulled the shine of what was shaping up to be a promising season under Hansi Flick. A dip in performances, combined with ongoing off-field issues, has caused the positive momentum to fade away.
Finally, though, there appears to be some good news for Barcelona. As per Mundo Deportivo, the club is reportedly close to securing a precautionary measure that would allow them to field both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in the event of a hypothetical Super Cup final.
The High Council of Sports (CSD) has considered the arguments presented by Barcelona and agrees that they have a solid legal basis. The club has presented a 52-page document in detail and the CSD is evaluating the situation.
The duo’s participation in the semi-final against Athletic Club is virtually ruled out, considering the time between now and kick-off is very minimal. However, having them even for the potential final would be a huge boost for Barcelona.
Even if CSD provides a precautionary measure for the duo to play, it would not be for the remainder of the season. It is exactly what the word mentions. Barcelona will have to fight it out in court to ensure the registration of the players.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona are able to count on both Olmo and Pau in a hypothetical final but for that, they will have to beat Bilbao first. Let’s wait and see if Hansi Flick’s men can get past the Basque club without the duo and then see where all this goes.
