FC Barcelona are trying to be as cautious as possible with their players this season. Over the last few seasons, injuries have plagued some of the club’s top players and it has been a major concern. Now, fortunately, Barcelona seems to have found an answer for most of them.

However, every once in a while, the arrival of the international break can create new concerns. Often times, Barcelona have seen their best players travel with their respective National teams and then arrive with unwanted injuries that keep them sidelined for quite some time.

It happened with Gavi’s ACL injury, which came about while he was on international duty, and similarly with Ronald Araujo’s injury that left him sidelined for several months as well. Now, there is a completely new issue at hand related to Pau Cubarsi.

Injured in his most recent game for the Spanish National team, the player had an ankle injury that forced him to come off early during the game against the Netherlands. Fortunately, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente suggested that the injury was not serious, but there are still concerns within Barcelona.

Considering the fact that they have a very demanding schedule up ahead, especially with the confirmed date of the game against CA Osasuna, Barça want Cubarsi to return to the club as soon as possible. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), on the other hand, is not too keen on it.

According to AS, this dispute has even created tensions between Barça and the RFEF now. La Blaugrana are aware that Cubarsi’s injury might not be severe or too bad, but they are unwilling to let the Spanish National team overextend him for their next game.

Having already lost several players this season to injury at various points of the campaign, Barcelona are unwilling to let it happen again. The club wishes for the player to make an early return from the Spanish National team camp, and the RFEF is opposed to that idea.

Instead, they hope to see the 18-year-old centre-back recover in time for the next game against the Netherlands in the second leg of their quarterfinals tie in the UEFA Nations League. Barcelona, however, are already understaffed when it comes to their defensive options.

Ronald Araujo will likely be occupied with Uruguay, and Inigo Martinez is reportedly injured for now, as well as Andreas Christensen. Eric Garcia is available, and Pau Cubarsi was expected to accompany him as the starting centre-back against Osasuna.

Now, it seems like the Spanish National team will keep him with their camp and assess his injury more as time passes. They hope to have him ready for the next game, but Luis de la Fuente will only play him if there is no chance of risking the player, something that Barcelona would appreciate.
