Currently sharing top spot with fellow Ayrshire-man Bobby Lennox – both winning 25 major honours for Celtic – after collecting his latest medal in Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup final win over theRangers back in December 2024, James Forrest will move ahead on Saturday of Celtic take something from the Scottish Premiership match at Tannadice.
James scored on his Celtic debut in 2010 and has found the back of the net in every subsequent seasons except this one. He has six games remaining to add to his 108 goals in 522 appearances for Celtic and to reach a remarkable record of scoring for Celtic for 16 seasons in a row.

“It’s something when you’re coming through that you don’t think about. Sometimes people try and ask you what’s your favourite but there have been that many good ones over the years.
“You want to make it into the first team, you want to play as many games as you can and win trophies and be part of such a successful team. It’s a team game, but personal accolades are nice as well. It’s just been a small part of the success over the years with Celtic.
“You see all the names there and the amount of great players that have played for this club, it’s unbelievable. I’ve played here so many times and I’m still enjoying it as much as ever. I’m just going to keep working hard to be here as long as I can.
“I’m not really one for over my career to think I want to do this or I want to do that. I just try and enjoy every day in the moment. The amount of highs that I’ve had over the years has been incredible. I just want to keep working hard to hopefully get a few more of them to come,” Jamesy told Sky Sports.
On scoring in every season for 15 years but still to make it 16IAR Jamesy said: “Yeah, it’s one that a few people have been talking about recently. Obviously, I want to do that. I’ve been back involved in the last few games and I want to help contribute to the team. In my position that’s what I want to do and hopefully I can score in the next couple of games.”

The Hoops need just one point to secure yet another title and James Forrest also needs a goal before the season ends to secure another remarkable record of having scored in every season as a Celtic player sixteen seasons.

On Sunday at Hampden when the penalty was awarded the supporters all around me at Hampden were calling for Jamesy to take it – and while he is reluctant to take the spot-kick duties – he is going to have to if he doesn’t score from open play first.
VAR decided that neither of the fouls on Jamesy was worthy of a penalty and that would have been much more controversial had the game still been in the balance.

Jamesy of course as we have mentioned before, scored for Celtic from the spot in a Champions League win at Celtic Park over Ajax early in his Celtic career. So as an experienced pro he should have no problem taking his chances should we get a penalty.

If it’s modesty and not wanting to put his own personal objectives before the team that’s admirable, but as a support we want Jamesy to get the record, as will all his teammates. Jota and Alistair Johnston were both talking this week about how special it is to share a dressing room with James Forrest and Brendan Rodgers is well aware of what James Forrest has give Celtic.

Put him on penalties please Brendan until he gets his goal! Let’s hope that it all happens on Saturday then it’s back to Paradise for a party! Open the gates, open the gates! And for the Celtic support at Tannadice on Saturday lunchtime, how about singing ‘There’s Only One James Forrest’? It would be really lovely.
Here’s Jamesy speaking to Sky Sports as the build-up to Celtic’s title party begins…
