There’s been plenty of talk around the current campaign’s out-of-contract Premier League players and that’s unlikely to die down next season.
Some big names have deals that are set to expire in 2026, leaving clubs with huge decisions to make this summer. Sell now? Or run the risk of losing them on a free transfer if fresh terms are not agreed?
Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation has flown under the radar at Liverpool given the focus on Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold this season. Liverpool will want to avoid another campaign of distractions and tie Konate down to a new deal.
The France international has been an integral part of the club’s success this season, having started the season out of favour under Arne Slot. Reservations remain over his injury record and ability in possession, but Konate is a commanding aerial presence – boasting the fourth-highest duel success rate in the league this season at 70.8% – and boasts rapid recovery pace to cover Liverpool’s forward-thinking full-backs.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are understood to be monitoring his situation closely.
Bryan Mbeumo has perhaps been one of the most under-appreciated wide players in the Premier League in recent seasons – but not anymore.
The Cameroonian has been in exceptional form this season for a Brentford team who continue to punch above their weight. Despite the loss of Ivan Toney in the summer, the Bees have pushed for a top-half finish and European qualification. Mbeumo has been central to that success, scoring 18 league goals and creating six more.
Only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Chris Wood have outscored the winger, whose 18 goals are as many as he managed in the previous two campaigns combined. Brentford face a tough task to hold on to the 25-year-old this summer.
Another side facing an uphill battle to hold on to their top talent is Crystal Palace. The Eagles have fended off suitors for Marc Guehi in recent windows and turned down bids in excess of £60m from Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the England centre-back has failed to commit to a new deal and Palace could be forced to cash in this summer. A regular in the England squad and key performer as the Three Lions reached the final of Euro 2024 last summer, Guehi may feel now is the time to move on in search of European football.
Rayan Ait-Nouri’s deal at Wolves will have just 12 months to run this summer.
The Algerian has been an impressive performer in a struggling side this season, scoring four times and providing six assists. He ranks 10th in the Premier League for tackles won and is in the top 10% of full-backs in the division for goal involvements and successful take-ons per 90 minutes.
Still just 23, Ait-Nouri already boasts 130 appearances in the Premier League and has performed in a variety of roles at Molineux. With several top clubs seeking reinforcements at left-back, he could be a prime target.
Bernardo Silva has spent eight seasons at Manchester City despite regularly being linked with a move away. A firm favourite of Pep Guardiola, the midfielder will enter the final year of his contract in the summer.
As City appear for an overhaul following a disappointing domestic campaign, Silva could join Kevin De Bruyne in departing the Etihad. The once indefatigable midfielder has not quite had his usual zip this season in a team that has aged in unison. If, however, this is his final year with the Citizens, he will depart as a true modern great.
