“The biggest compliment” – Pundit explains how Tyrique George has shown up Nkunku and Jackson

Playing Tyrique George up front started as a bit of a Conference League bodge job to rest players later in games once Marc Guiu had joined Nicolas Jackson on the sidelines in February.
But his impressive showings leading the line started to make him a more regular feature, and he’s now been promoted to essentially our second choice striker after Jackson. Against Fulham on Sunday he came on to lead the line and actually showed up Jackson by showing much more instinctive striking ability (and scoring the equaliser), as Jason Cundy pointed out on TalkSport’s summary of the game:
“Bringing on George… It felt the right move. To put Neto out on the right, both had a big impact. The biggest compliment I can pay him on that strike, is that it’s a striker’s goal. The goal doesn’t move. As that ball comes across, if you can get that ball with enough whip to get the ball away from Leno, the chances are that if you hit the goal that’s going to go in. That’s instinctive.”
“You look at Jackson, he’s lost that ability to anticipate and be more of an instinctive striker. Tyrique George, that’s a brilliant finish. Well done young man.”

The significant part of George coming on for Jackson was that it showed he has definitively moved ahead of Christopher Nkunku in the attacking pecking order – and not a moment too soon.
The Frenchman was given chance after chance up top but looked out of place, out of form and quite often just uninterested. George is now showing up both the former Leipzig man and Jackson in different ways.
