With 11 Canaries contracts expiring in the summer, who proves most likely to be leaving Norfolk shores upon the campaign's conclusion?
Eleven of Norwich City's first-team squad are yet to renew contracts that run out this coming summer, including ever-present goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
While many of these deals contain an option of a further year, the volume of expirees suggests that there will certainly be some departures this summer.
With a large portion of the squad hailing from overseas, certain individuals may be looking to preemptively secure the next step of their career this January, by way of a pre-contract agreement at a non-English club.
In a situation between two English clubs, a player with less than one month remaining on their contract is able to enter into a pre-contract agreement.
However, in a deal taking the player abroad, or in Scotland and Wales, this window extends to six months, meaning those with expiring contracts may begin negotiating as early as December 31.
The preexisting career paths and multi-national nature of the list suggests that negotiations abroad could well be under way, but who proves most likely to be leaving Norfolk shores upon the campaign's conclusion?
The bottom-most four seen on the above table have not been discussed, as youth dictates that they will almost certainly be continuing their pursuit amongst the English game.
Despite being born in Norwich, and exclusively playing in England over the course of his career, Angus Gunn is Scotland's first-choice goalkeeper.
Being the son of iconic Canaries and Tartan Army keeper Bryan Gunn, Gunn Jr. eventually decided to follow in his father's footsteps, having played for England at every youth level.
With high-stock in the highlands, Gunn may look to further complete his naturalisation, after being routinely linked with Rangers over the years.
According to the PinkUn, Canaries boss Thorup insists that contract negotiatons are 'always ongoing' when it comes to the shot-stopper, but he may already have designs on a move north of the border.
Swiss winger Christian Fassnacht played 42 times for the Norfolk side last campaign, but poor form has seen him ostracised at Carrow Road.
Having joined from current Champions League strugglers Young Boys, the 31-year-old has been linked with a return to the capital club.
With the ascendancy of those in similar positions, namely Borja Sainz, Fassnacht's East Anglian career seems all but done for, a hugely likely exit this coming new year.
Signed as a free agent in October, Emiliano Marcondes has begun to prove a hit in football's second most famous yellow jersey.
A flurry of goal involvements at the end of November cemented a starting berth in Thorup's side, it would be incredibly surprising if the option to extend was not excercised.
Jacob Lungi Sørensen has been with his current club since 2020, though excluding his first season, he has never quite commanded a consistent run in the team.
The defensive midfielder, who has been plagued by injury, has only played for one other club, hometown side Esbjerg fB. However, as a peripheral figure in the side, he may soon be returning over the North Sea.
Much like Gunn, Grant Hanley is a Scot yet to play in Scotland. The defender has over 50 caps for his country and spent his teenage years at the academy of Glasgow Rangers.
Hanley has been completely ousted at Carrow Road this year, suggesting his seven-year tenure is coming to an end.
Still a fixture in the national team, Scotland may be the only country where his stock remains high. It would be entirely reasonable to expect an SPL move for Hanley in the immediate future.
The Cuban is enacting a seventh Championship season, after joining Norwich in 2018.
An apparent inability to get a league start under Throrup, combined with intermittent injury setbacks, means that One Hernández, who grew up in Germany, will likely put a pin in a Carrow road career that will be remembered fondly when it's over.
A return to 2. Bundesliga would be a forseeable destination for the 31-year-old winger.
Bizarrely, the striker from Somerset holds Austrian citizenship through his paternal grandmother, having played for the country's U20 side in 2008.
Despite this, in the twilight of his career, it feels very unlikely that the former Paulton Rovers striker turned Premier League stalwart wishes to try his luck at the likes of Rapid Vienna or Sturm Graz.
While his injury record and increasing age may suggest he either hangs up his boots or moves on this summer, whatever he does, he'll likely be staying on English soil.
