The Magpies have been back in the EFL for just over a season now and may let go of some of their first year stars soon with their deals due to expire.

Notts County have made a steady start to their second season back in League Two, and while they have not quite had the early success that they had in 2023/24, they are in a relatively strong position as 2024 comes to a close.

Stuart Maynard's side will be hoping that they can go one step further than they did last season and push for a play-off position towards the latter stages of the campaign.

The upcoming January transfer window will give supporters hope that the Magpies can join the fight for the top seven, but there will also be a look at some of those whose contracts are set to expire in June.

Football League World have taken a look at the six Notts County players who are due to leave the club at the end of the season if no action is taken before then.

David McGoldrick

Former Derby County and Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick returned home to Meadow Lane in the summer of 2023, and has been exceptional when he has played.

He signed a two-year contract on his arrival, and that deal is due to run out in June. At 37, the forward is at the very end of his playing days, and while he is not able to feature for 90 minutes every week, when he does get on the pitch, he is magical to watch.

It would not be a surprise to see McGoldrick retire at the end of the campaign, and he will be hoping that he ends his fantastic career at his boyhood club with promotion.

Sam Slocombe

Sam Slocombe has been through a lot with Notts County after joining in 2019 following their relegation to the National League.

He earned a new two-year contract in 2023, and he will leave the club after six years if he is not offered another one, after helping them to promotion in the same year that he signed the new deal.

Now 36, Slocombe is in a similar position to McGoldrick, and as he is no longer the first-choice, time could be running out at Meadow Lane for the goalkeeper.

Sam Austin

Sam Austin joined the Magpies from Kidderminster Harriers in 2022 after making over 200 appearances for the non-league side, and he was a revelation in NG2 in his first couple of seasons.

Brought in on a three-year contract, the winger's deal is due to expire at the end of June, something that supporters may have split opinions over after a strong 2023/24.

It has been a lot more difficult for the 28-year-old since August, and Maynard will have a tricky decision to make in the coming months.

Dan Crowley

Dan Crowley has been fantastic over the last year-and-a-half, and he played a key role in Notts' strong start to life back in League Two.

He scored 15 goals and registered 10 assists as the Magpies finished 14th in the table, 10 points off the play-off positions. He has already started finding the back of the net and his teammates this season, and he is a key player for Maynard.

He is yet to sign a new deal after signing on for two years following County's promotion to the EFL, and January will be a difficult month for the East Midlands club as they look to hold on to him.

Robbie Cundy

Robbie Cundy was released by Barnsley in the summer, and joined the Magpies on a one-year contract, with the hope that this season was going to offer more opportunities following a campaign that was plagued by injury issues.

However, the 27-year-old has struggled to maintain fitness once again, and he has not had the chance to prove himself on the grass on a regular basis so far.

With just over six months left on his deal, it is hard to tell where the centre-back goes next in his career, and whether the League Two side sign him on for another season.

Cedwyn Scott

Similar to Cundy, Cedwyn Scott had an injury-hit 2023/24, but an extension was triggered in his contract, securing his services for this season.

The forward took time away from the game in October and November so that he could receive help with his mental health, returning against Crewe Alexandra in his side's 2-0 loss.

The 26-year-old's deal is due to run out in the summer, and it is not yet known if there is a similar option for another season-long extension to be made by Notts County.
