Thiago Motta confirms without doubt that ‘the decision has been made’ for Juventus to sell Federico Chiesa, Tiago Djalo and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia. ‘We have been very clear with them.’
The trio was left out of the squad for this evening’s 2-2 friendly draw with Brest at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara, where the goals were scored by Dusan Vlahovic and Danilo.
It had been reported that they were cut from the group because they are transfer-listed and the coach made the position perfectly clear.
“Chiesa is out for transfer reasons, the same as the others who were left behind, other than Fabio Miretti who is injured,” Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have been very clear with them. They are talented, but must find other options where they will get more playing time. For Chiesa and the others, the decision has been made.”
While Tiago Djalo and Nicolussi Caviglia are likely to be sent out on loan to gain experience, Chiesa has a contract that will expire in June 2025, so he must be sold this summer to avoid the risk of losing him as a free agent.
Juve have as a result lowered the asking price to €20m, but there are still no clubs particularly interested in making that move stick.
Roma had tried, but when he hesitated, they opted to invest in his Juventus teammate Matias Soulé instead.
Liverpool, Napoli, Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United have all been linked, but never made a formal proposal.
The 2-2 draw with Brest was another disappointing friendly after the 3-0 defeat to FC Nurnberg.
“We have to improve day by day to bring joy to the fans. It is important to prepare well and improve in the football that we want to see,” continued Thiago Motta.
“I saw some improvements from the first game, it’s a natural growth process. Douglas Luiz came on well, he arrived late in pre-season, but I am happy.”
