According to FotballSkanalen, the playmaker is expected to remain with the Championship side beyond this season despite multiple clubs circling.

Sigurdsson signed for the Lancashire outfit in the summer of 2023, arriving on an initial loan deal before converting it to a permanent move in December of that year.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injury issues during his time at Ewood Park, and has only made five league appearances in John Eustace’s side so far this season.

Sigurdsson is attracting interest from three clubs from Sweden, and could sign a pre-contract agreement due to his expiring deal with Blackburn.

It has been claimed that Djurgården, IFK Norrköping and Malmö FF are all eyeing a potential move for the Iceland international.

However, there is optimism that he will remain with Rovers beyond this season instead.

All three clubs have reportedly enquired about his availability, with the player free to discuss terms with European sides due to only have six months left on his deal.

It is believed that Sigurdsson is leaving his options open just in case he opts to leave Blackburn at the end of the campaign, with nothing yet agreed with the English club.

But it is expected that he will remain at Ewood Park despite interest in a return to Scandinavia.

Sigurdsson’s importance to Blackburn

Injuries have prevented Sigurdsson from playing a larger role in Eustace’s side since his appointment as manager last February.

He has made just five appearances in the league this season, with the team competing for promotion to the Premier League.

Blackburn moved up to fifth in the table midweek with a 3-0 win over Portsmouth.

Next up for Rovers is a trip to face Oxford United on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Blackburn have Sigurdsson situation under control

Sigurdsson has endured a tough second season with Blackburn, but he is still only 25 and has time on his side to turn things back around.

He was a promising part of the team last year, scoring five times from 29 appearances in the Championship.

Keeping him around for at least another season would make sense for the Championship side, and it appears that the club have this situation under control.

However, until he signs on the dotted line on a new deal, there is still every chance that he leaves.
