Time for Daniel Levy to let someone else have a go at running Tottenham? | OneFootball

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Kasey Keller has weighed into the debate about the future of his old club under manager Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy.

The American international, who played in four World Cups, believes Spurs fans have to get used to being out of the hunt for trophies until the club gets more investment or there is a change of leadership.

Tottenham are still in both domestic cup competitions and battling away in the Europa League but are on a run if just one win in their last eight games as they go into this weekend’s match away to Southampton in the bottom half of the Premier League table

Manager Ange Postecoglou has come out fighting, insisting he will win a trophy this season and be a success. Chairman Daniel Levy and ENIC, the club’s owners since 2001 remain under fire from sections of supporters for the lack of silverware during their tenure.

And Keller says he is not surprised by the current state of play. He explained: “The number one outlier for success is how much money you spend. Now, if you are the seventh or eighth highest payroll in the Premier League, then you pretty much have to be content with being the seventh or eighth best team in the Premier League.

“Daniel has done a lot to bring Spurs into the 21st century with the training ground, the stadium and everything else. But we’re starting to see the fans get more and more frustrated now, as the infrastructure is all in place and supposedly the marketing dollars and everything else is in place, and is it now to get to that point where you’re financially paying a team that can compete because all that stuff goes in place?”

In recent years, there has been criticism about the club’s culture from former managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Keller, speaking as an ambassador for William Hill Vegas understands where they are coming from and added: “For as much as I respect Daniel and everything he’s done, and yes, I had some very tough times with him in dealing with contracts and everything else like that, but he’s consistent, he is who he is. “But is there a point where [you ask] can they do it within, take it to the next step, or is it a situation where this is who we are and maybe it’s time for somebody else to take them to the next step?”
