Sandro Tonali scored a stunning winner as Newcastle United defeated Brentford at St James' Park.
Alexander Isak had chances to score for his team before he eventually did open the scoring just before half-time.
It could have been different had Bryan Mbeumo not slipped as he attempted to defend Jacob Murphy's ball into the danger area. Isak took advantage of his luck and passed the ball into the net from close range.
The Bees have generally been good on the road in recent weeks and they levelled things from the spot in the 66th minute.
Nick Pope was the guilty party for bringing down Yoane Wissa after Mbeumo's ball into the box. The Cameroonian then took the resulting spot-kick and finished in the cool fashion we have come to expect from him.
The home side retook the lead eight minutes later in spectacular fashion. At first glance, you may have thought that the Italian was attempting a cross from close to the corner flag. However, with the sheer power behind the ball it seems more likely to have been an audacious effort from an unlikely angle.
Mark Flekken will have to take the blame for this as the big Dutch goalkeeper was clearly not expecting an effort like that to come at his near post. Although in his defence, no one else would have expected it either.
From that point on the Carabao Cup winners were able to hold on to their lead this time and bag all three points.
