Samuele Ricci has drawn a long list of rich suitors, but Torino have every intention of keeping him in January. They had the same stance about other linchpins in the past, and they all eventually left anyway, though. On the other hand, they have generally cashed in during the summer.
President Urbano Cairo made his announcement to Radio Sportiva.
“Ricci will surely stay at Torino. I’m working with director Davide Vagnati and his collaborators to define our winter strategy. I don’t want to give away too much, but our ideas are clear.”
The owner addressed the rumors about selling the team.
“I met with the Red Bull group in July to discuss a sponsorship deal, which came to fruition. I haven’t heard from them since. I don’t know PIF. There haven’t been any contacts. It’s all fake news. Maybe somebody wants to destabilize us, but we don’t lose our sleep over it. The fans are key, and their support has been decisive in the past. Some may be against me, but it’s important to back the squad for things to be more positive. I won’t sell, but I don’t want to stay forever. I spent €10M for Torino when they were about to go bankrupt. I threw my hat in the ring. If somebody richer than me comes forward, I’m willing to listen to his proposal.”
The situation could impact the future of Ricci, as Torino might hold onto him to make the club more appealing. Cairo also commented on coach Paolo Vanoli.
