Tottenham Hotspur are not yet done in the winter market, and they are looking to sign another defender before the transfer window closes at 11 pm tonight.

According to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi, Tottenham have submitted a bid to sign Burnley centre-back Maxime Esteve.

Spurs have submitted a bid in the region of £20 million for the 22-year-old centre-back, but Burnley are demanding a fee of around £30m.

With only a few hours remaining, Spurs can still secure a deal for Esteve if they can slightly improve their bid.

Tanzi wrote on X (roughly translates as): “Tottenham have sent a £20 million offer for Maxime Esteve. Burnley want 30m.”

Spurs have struggled badly with injuries this season. They lost Micky van de Ven for a long spell and are currently without Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Radu Dragusin.

The north London club managed to secure a deal for Kevin Danso last weekend. It appeared that Wolverhampton Wanderers would sign him, but Spurs hijacked the deal and secured his signature.

However, Ange Postecoglou wants to add one more defender, and it seems they have targeted Esteve.

Tottenham were heavily interested in signing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, and they agreed a loan deal, but it didn’t materialise.

Esteve joined Burnley initially on loan from Montpellier in the 2024 January transfer window, and the Clarets have signed him permanently.

He has made 30 starts in the Championship this season and has been one of their key players. Tottenham need to come close to Burnley’s asking price to have any chance of signing him before tonight’s deadline.
